Wild Fires in North Texas

Yesterday was a horrible day for most of north Texas...There where more than 15 fires in Jack, Archer, Wise, Montague and Earth counties and the wind blew 40 mph or more. This was one of the worse fire days in recent history. And, when I say fire, I mean something burning 100s or 1000s of acres.

As some of you know my husband is a fire captain at a metroplex city, but he is also a wild land firefighter. This time a year he goes on wildfires. He does contracting for the federal and state governments, but mostly he goes for free, for the betterment of a whole.

At any given time we can be found "fire poaching." This is when we hear that a fire is going on somewhere close and we got to it. BLW takes over sometimes but mostly we are in and out before anyone knows. Well, they know but we for BLW fires are not a political opportunity.

April, 9...along with 2 of Decatur's paid fire fighters who work for BLW when needed. We started on a fire in Balsora, Texas...BLW and his guys started by saving the Balsora church and catching the head of the fire for local volunteers.

Then on to Jack Co., We have a tenancy to end up on bad fire days in Jack Co. Jack County fire fighters are awesome and work their butts off. This fire is still burning 4 days after it started. It is made up of several fires that have burned together.

Water is not very helpful when putting out wildfires...To stop most wildfires you must burn what is in front of them(giving them nothing to burn.) Enjoy the pictures!!!!!!
